Sydney Big Day Out/My Chemical Romance sideshow - Thursday January 26th & Friday 27th 2012
So once I left BDO and rushed home I quickly changed clothes, sorted out the things I would need to camp out for the next day/night when MCR would play and went to the next venue.
My parents drove meĀ to the venue and then I met up with Angie! My santi! Who I had not seen in over a year :(
I was planning for awhile now to meet up with her and to camp out for the Friday MCR show.
I also met Amy who had been staying with Angie since arriving from New Zealand. I also met many other people, too many awesome fans to list to be honest.
I got to the Hordern Pavillion at about 8:30/9pm I think and then i settled in on the ground trying to prepare for what was to come.
I had never camped out/slept overnight at a venue before so i could get barrier for a concert/band.
I had my sleeping bag, blanket and pillow yet still you could not be very comfortable but you had to try. I got very little sleep but it was like one big sleepover and i didn’t get to talk to everyone who was there from the time i got there to 6am but everyone seemed cool.
I was number 15 and we gave people numbers up until like 30 and we all hoped we would get to the barrier first.
Security told us we could stay at the venue as long as we made no noise at all and stayed in the same place all night.
By 6am things got worse and worse as time no longer went by quickly at all and trying to find a spot to stay in for a long period of time was becoming difficult. Sitting or standing.. i don’t know what was worse at times plus being sleep depreived.
Also early in the morning at lot of us had returned our blankets and sleeping bags so we had nothinh soft to sit on, lay down on. People became desperate to find something to sit on.
At some point a few of us went to gloria jeans to sit on their oh so soft furniture. It was like heaven lol We had something to drink and eat.
I felt a bit sick after that and so did a few other people. I think it was a mixture of junk food and nerves/excitement for MCR.
When it was two hours to go I started to try and get my energy levels back up and get excited for the concert.
I stood up mostly from then on and people started writing things on people’s hands, words and lyrics.
It was really stressful about half an hour before doors opened as the lines weren’t all clear and it wasn’t clear what would happen next with our tickets, who goes in first, or all rows at once? and we were all saying to each other what if we don’t get the barrier.
TBC…
